At the ages of 13 and 11, Sophie and Emma Zirkin went on their driveway hoop in the cold, wet rain and shot 1,000 shots on Facebook Live to honor their grandmother who had recently died of lung cancer. Their reason was to raise funds for GO2 for Lung Cancer, an incredible organization dedicated to lung cancer research and advocacy. For weeks leading up to the big day, Sophie and Emma posted fundraising links for GO2 for Lung Cancer and invited their contacts to contribute to this important cause. And they invited friends and family to watch them shoot 1,000 shots on Facebook Live - and contribute to GO2 in real-time in honor of their grandmother! Sophie and Emma raised almost $15,000 that day!

Today, Sophie and Emma are inviting basketball players of all ages and abilities all over the country to do what they did - and for the same reason - to raise funds for lung cancer research. Over a 36-hour period, this April 8-9, 2025, wherever you are - on your high school or college gym floor, in your backyard, or at the park – you are invited to shoot up to 1,000 shots live and online – on Facebook Live, Instagram Live, or whatever works for you. In the weeks leading up to the event, let friends, family, and online contacts know exactly when you will go live shooting hoops, and share the fundraising link for GO2 for Lung Cancer.

The goal is to raise as much as we can for this important cause. And of course the challenge! Sophie is currently Maryland's all-time single-season record holder for three-point shooting--and top five in the nation!--and Emma is currently in the top 20 freshman three-point shooters in the nation. Let's see if anyone can beat them in this three-point shooting, have some fun -- and most importantly, unite to raise funds and awareness through basketball to increase lung cancer survival.

When: Tuesday, April 8, 9 AM ET to Wednesday, April 9, 9 PM ET

Where: Wherever you are! Participate from your favorite court in your community.

Why: Sophie and Emma are high school basketball players in Baltimore, MD, and lost their grandmother to lung cancer. Sophie holds the Maryland high school single-season record for three-pointers, and Emma is a top-20 Freshman three-point shooter nationally. They wanted to combine their passion for basketball with this important cause and invite you to participate!
